My inspiration comes from the artwork by Jamie Reid and how his work defined the style and political views of the Punk movement in the 1970s. Through integrating Reid’s patchwork style and pieces of art, I created designs that reflected his thoughts on social injustices and the DIY attitudes associated with Punk. Having always been interested in historic fashion, I researched into the history of corsets, particularly focussing on 19th century fashion. I decided to look at the work of Oliver Theyskens, a Belgian fashion designer who often took elements of historic fashion and incorporated them into his own work with a more modern stance. In order to put my own spin on his work, I used traditional wear of bodices and petticoats in my designs. After this course I plan on continuing down the design route, looking for degrees or perhaps an apprenticeship in this area.
