I focused on The Batcave nightclub which was a popular place in the goth community during the late 70’s and early 80’s. I also researched the music that would have been played there and incorporated their portraits. I chose the goth subculture to focus on during the project because it is something I, myself enjoy in my life as well as something I already have a lot of knowledge of. I often have a gothic tone to my artwork and this subject made it easier for me to create the artwork I love without fitting into certain categories. I created etchings using black ink and white paper to resemble the look that posters and magazines, such as Propaganda. I think the harsh exposure creates a gothic undertone which was fitting with the images and topics that would be displayed.
