For my fmp I had chosen to investigate portraiture and how different artists explore and distort the face, using a range of mediums, focusing particularly on photography and digital media. For these pieces I decided to take squares out of the portraits to make 3 individual 3x3 grids. I chose a mix between blank squares and squares that include features to create a contrast within the face. I chose the composition of the squares carefully as I wanted to evenly distribute the mix between blank square and the facial features. These pieces are aimed to make people uneasy, to make them question what they are looking at, so that they can create their own narrative that they relate to. Distortion means different things to everyone, which is why there is not a set meaning behind the pieces, the meaning is whatever the viewer chooses it to be.
