I had the idea for my project to make playing cards, using the King of Hearts, Queen of Clubs, and Jack of Diamonds as the cards. I used Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom tablet to produce these digitally. The history of playing cards in France in the 1600s highly inspired me. I wanted the cards to have a dark, angsty tone, so I chose to have the live side of the face card on one side and the skull version on the other. By creating the face cards, I wanted it to be a design suitable for all audiences. I also made a physical prototype by repurposing old playing cards and overlaying my artwork on top. I used colour to convey the meaning of the cards; I chose red for the King to represent authority and assertiveness, purple for the Queen to show royalty, and blue for Jack to indicate intelligence and charm.
