For my final major project, I was tasked with redesigning the interior for a local pre-school. The school has been faced with many issues over the years, and the building no longer meets the design codes set by the government. The past year has been difficult for everyone, and it’s important to get children back to school, socialising with one another, so creating a safe space, which also helps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 was equally as important as redesigning elements if the building to suit those with disabilities for ease of access.
Redesigning the building was a huge task to take on, as there are so many design standards and requirements to meet, however the outcome of my project has been great, as the requirements have been met, as well as the additional changes to the layout and design. The interior layout has helped to provide an open, welcoming space, with a secluded staff room area, a separate teaching classroom, easy garden access and so much more.
